Okay, I dished myself a nice hearty helping of "crow" today. According to Wikipedia: Eating crow is an English idiom meaning admitting wrongness or having been proven wrong after taking a strong position. I was very happy to admit I was wrong about this one though!!!
S and I came home from a movie last night and Mike said that he answered a call from American Girl. We both stared at him as he said that the poster my daughter made was chosen as one of sixteen winners. And, unbelievably, there were over 20,000 entries! We both started screaming and S started crying. We were jumping up and down. Baby L was screaming because he was terrified by our hysterics.
So, the winners will be posted on the American Girl website on April 6. There was one Grand Prize Winner and fifteen First Place Winners in her age group (8-10). She won an American Girl doll (Chrissa), three books, and a movie. Her school will get $250, a full-size reproduction of her poster, the movie, and books. Her poster may appear in American Girl magazine and/or upcoming American Girl catalogs. They haven't decided which of the winning posters will be included yet.
I have to say that I had a lot of trouble falling asleep last night because I was so excited for her. Twenty thousand is a lot of entries!
And next time maybe I'll go a little easier on the "dream killing" thing.

Wow! How amazing! That is outrageous. I am proud to know you her, whatta celebrity! Imagine....20,000! Tell her congrats...and way to eat crow! I am a dream killer too, but wasn't it all that much more exciting when she did win???
